Risk Management: Incident Management Plans

Incident Management Plans form a key part of Business Continuity and all organisations should possess their own bespoke plans.

These plans should be under constant review to ensure that they remain relevant to evolving political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental conditions.  The Red Cell bespoke Incident Management Plan contributes towards the 'Response' element of our Risk Reduction Strategy (see Risk Management).

Legal Basis

The first British Standard for Business Continuity Management;        BS 25999 offers organisations best practice guidance, which Red Cell fully supports.  Additionally the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 sets out the requirement for Public organisations to put in place effective Incident Management Plans.

Service Delivery

Red Cell consultants assist clients with the development and implementation of robust and effective plans, to enable them to respond appropriately to adverse events.  Client organisations are then able minimise any disruptive effect and quickly return to normal business operations.

The Red Cell Threat Vulnerability Assessment and Security Penetration Testing services both contribute towards making improvements to existing plans, or developing new ones.  Additionally our Training Cell will ensure that key members of staff are trained in their specific roles and responsibilities as well as their organisations procedures in dealing with a range of crisis scenarios.

Benefits of Incident Management Planning

Our Incident Management Plan comprises of bespoke incident management policy and procedures, as well as easy to use Immediate Action cards, flow charts and 'Response' management templates to allow clients to record and monitor events, thus improving communications and ensuring effective decision making.  The benefits of our Incident Management Plan and consultancy service are as follows:

  • Ensures appropriate organisational structure and responses are in place to effectively manage a rapidly developing emergency situation.
  • Minimise likelihood and impact of adverse events, such as fire, flood, trespass, workplace violence or bomb threats.
  • Incident Management Team staff roles and responsibilities clearly articulated and embedded through staff implementation training.
  • Quick response flow charts indicating what action to take during emergency situations.
  • Incident Management Team response checklists and Incident Response monitoring and recording templates.
